DETOUR EVENTS
We at Jai Hind College believe in bringing out the best from the participants. This year the fest will be organized with much pomp and show. Detour 2009 promises to showcase your talent through a series of innovative and exciting events.
Whether you are a musician or a journalist, a director or an ad ‘guru’, an actor or a radio jockey – We’re sure you can find your niche, right here at Detour!!
So here’s your chance to step into the unchartered world of Detour.

1) Your own Zoo Zoo
Love them or hate them, the zoo zoos have managed to make an impact. So what if you were given a chance to create a mascot of your own? In this event participants have to come up with a mascot as part of their 360 degree campaign to support their product along with a one liner USP.

2) Step into the Past
We all love to make futuristic ads today! But what if we made ads that took us back to the past? Taking a product into the past or using a product of the past and making a television commercial based on that period! Imagine making a coke ad set in the golden Mughal era! Or making a slave ad during the British imperialism? It’s time to churn out your imaginative streak and create a 1 minute TVC that will help all of us ‘Step into the Past!’

JOURNALISM
1) Real breaking news
Reporting from an air conditioned up market studio may look dreamy to some. But what about reporting from the field? It requires bravery, quick thinking and confidence. A site shall be given to all the colleges where an incident will occur (for example a fight breaking out next to our canteen) which they have to cover with a news bite, a press release along with any other innovative medium. They have to report back within a specific time period. The best coverage will decide the winners.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Edward Cullen met Hermione Grangers instead of Bella? Or if snow white met the three little pigs?

3) News Flash
Blindfold yourself and read news, ever imagined that? Well we give you a chance to experience this through News flash!
2 Newscasters will be present, while one reporter shall be on “site”. He will be blindfolded and the other 2 newscasters will have to make the third reporter guess the news clip that is being played behind.

4) Razzmatazz!
The world of fashion never fails to leave you dazzled! It’s time to evoke a sense of haute couture in you with our - one of a kind fashion journalism event! Participants are required to design and create their own fashion catalogue belonging to a genre given to them. It should feature 6-8 looks and each of these MUST be accompanied with a 75-150 words description.

5) Detour stress hotline
RJ’s have good voices but do they have good PR skills? A mismatch right? Every team will have 2 RJ’s and they will go through two rounds. In round 1, the RJs have to hold their own 3 min show and in the second round they will be assigned a celebrity whose problems they have to tactfully tackle.

PUBLIC RELATIONS
1) Damage Control
We tend to protect the people we love. But how about protecting the place you love? ‘Damage Control’ is an event where people have to come out and protect places they represent. Each team will get a crisis situation and as a PR representative of that place you have to put on your thinking caps and come up with the best way to do some serious ‘Damage Control.’

FILM EVENTS
1) Who dun it? (8-10 mins + 30 secs)
Is it the scheming brother or the naïve nanny? ‘Who was behind the crime’ is a question we all find ourselves asking while watching a good thriller! But, what if you knew who was behind everything. Will you be able to weave the story around? Its time to spin that suspense quotient and create a bone chilling story that is going to leave everyone at the edge of their seats.
We give you the climax, you give us the story!

2) Comfusion(3 mins + 30 secs)
Ever imagined Chris Brown flaunting his suave hip hop moves, to a Desi Bhangra tune? If not, it’s time to let that imagination run a little wild! This event requires participants to seamlessly blend in a contrasting video and audio clip! The more synchronized the final product, the better the chances of winning!

3) Nonstop
No edits. No cuts. No re-takes. Do you have it in you? If the answer is yes, then it’s time to prove it and get working. It’s as simple as that. Shoot an unedited video for a span of 60 seconds and tell us your story. Participants have the liberty to use their own scripts.

4) Weave it
Ever dreamt of seeing your words transform into a film? Here is an event where your words will do the talking, literally. In this script writing event, participants have to go through 2 rounds. In round one, teams of two have to write a script based on a situation given to them. The qualifying scripts will make it to round two, where the participants have to sell their script to the judge, by presenting it out in front of him. It’s simple, the words that sell, win.

CULTURAL EVENTS
1) Missing (Play)
What if you had a chance to create an invisible character? The audience can sure see him, but the remaining characters can’t. Will it be confusing, or will it help create mystery? It is up to you to decide! Participants have the liberty to use their own scripts.
Duration: 8-12 minutes

2) Rise of the cults (Fashion show)
Sub-cults have their own way of life, but what do they do to enter mainstream society? They create their own niche!
Fancy a cult at your wedding; you’d spot them from a mile. A gothic bride, a punk in a kurta, there's where you let go of all social stigmas!
Duration: 8 mins

3) East meets west (Dance)
Each contingent has to include one Bollywood star and one Hollywood star to bring out the flavours of east and west. They have to incorporate the dancing styles of each, not as competition but fusion and present it in the most spectacular way possible.

4) All that jazz(band)
Washing powder Nirma! Washing powder Nirmaaaaaa! Imagine a complete revamp of this tune! For all those rock stars out there, it’s time to hit the right chord! Detour 09 presents all that jazz, an original band event, where every band has to play two songs. One being a cover of their own choice, second being their own version of the theme song of the product allotted to them.
Time per band: 12 minutes (including sound check)

Detour 09-Its time to take a distinctive route!!!

Jai Hind college comprises of an eclectic blend of top level educational programmes with opportunities in arts, commerce, science, management, banking and media. The motto of the college "I WILL AND I CAN" encourages and inspires 5000+ students to break the preconcieved boundaries of performance.
It’s never one straight road that we have been seeing in BMM, it is multiple directions that we face with almost every step we take here. We, at Jai Hind BMM, choose not to recognise any dead ends, choose not to be afraid of a little distinction in our route. You all saw it in Dec 08, and this year we invite you again to join in and take yet another distinctive route- Lets Detour Once More!
